To know Joey and Kerri is to love them. The news of both of them being diagnosed with cancer is heartbreaking. We've created this site so that you can get updates, offer help, and use the guest book to write thoughts of encouragement and love. The outpouring of love and support they are receiving is very wanted and appreciated, however there will be times in the future when the Lynchs may not be able to keep up with phone calls and visits. Please use this site as an alternative means to stay connected.

Sorry this is so late, but between getting home really late last night and a very busy day today, we are now finally getting to you all!
Update on Kerri: Yesterday's appts. with the surgeons went extremely well. Dr. Lisa Rutstein (same doc as Joey) is my cancer doctor. She will be performing the double mastectomy then Dr. Brandon Claytor will be the surgeon doing my reconstruction. There were a couple of things I learned yesterday that I was not planning on, but realize needs to be part of the plan...I will have to have chemo...YUCK!!...and the reconstruction will take about a year to complete. I guess if I want 'em to look good it is going to take time, right?? My brother made me feel great about the chemo part...He told me that all I needed was a nice wig and a set of "Billy Bob" teeth and I would be good to go!! Thanks Lee!! Love your support LOL!!
My surgery will be taking place the week of May 17. This is good because that puts Joey 6 weeks out from his operation, so it looks pretty good that he will be able to be with me throughout my "ordeal." I know how I felt about being by his side the whole time he was in the hospital, so I can relate to his wants and needs to be with me. It is certainly a comfort zone.
Now, a word from Joey:
"Thanks for all of the posts and cards. They mean a lot to ALL 4 of us! I just got a card from a group of boys that I have coached from all different sports in the past and it really warmed my spirits. It was so touching to think these boys had such kind words for both me and Kerri.
It was hard not being able to be with Kerri in Portland yesterday, but between my brother Don and sister Jenny, they made sure I was pampered just fine!! I also had to endure a night without her, so Caleb decided he'd come lay with me and we just talked about everything. Caleb and Cam always make fun of me with my "life lesson" stories, so I tried not to make the conversations too deep!! We have always been able to talk to our boys about anything and this situation is no different, which makes it a little easier moving forward.
I am starting to eat better and went outside today for 3 walks. My goal is to gain some weight here, even though I've never been on the large side, but with all of the great food people are sending our way, it looks like I am well on my way!! I am still quite sore, but it is feeling a little better every day. Only on Tylenol for pain and am just getting my digestive system going again. Even got to have a whoopie pie before Kerri ate them all! Delicious!!
Our spirits are high and we wish you all well. God Bless."

  1. Wonderful. We have been checking the blog all day to see how Kerri made out. I can't wait until you can put the second "ordeal" behind you. So glad Joey may be able to be there too. If you don't mind I have a few words of wisdom:
    1. Don't underestimate the power of banana bread.
    2. The "Annie" wig is available. (I personally think you would look adorable and maybe it would inspire you to sing....In the timely words of Annie...."Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya....tomorrow...you're only a day away.")
Sorry....Tom okayed this comment and said you needed to laugh. L. Christie

  2. It is hard enough to deal with having to go through this without having to both be dealing with it. It is great to read your posts and your positive thoughts. Being positive is one of the biggest ways to deal with it. I can relate to the banana bread. Remember to eat whatever you want even if it's not good for you, calories are what count. Your taste buds are going to change so if one thing tastes good now, in an hour it might not be what you want. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you both! Lee K.

  4. Once again, thanks for the update- although we have been wondering and checking, we are still amazed that you find the energy and focus to summarize the overwhelming details of all that is going on for both of you. Hope you are now able to relax at home, without having to be on the go at least for a few days- at home together, going no further than your new big window overlooking the peaceful lake... We are here ready to help however we can!

    With Love,

Shelley, Gary, Alex, Ian and Anna

  5. Kerri, I might have my "Wilbur" teeth somewhere and the t-shirt that says "Child of My Heart". You can borrow them if you'd like and go to the Airport mall to sell macaroni necklaces!

    Love, Jen

  6. Joe and Kerri: Yes, have been waiting to hear an update- thanks for taking the time. Happy to hear that Joey will be able to be with you, Kerri. Important for both of you. We, too, didn't realize the effort and time you'll be putting into getting healthy again, Kerri. But, with the strength of your family and support of these many, many friends, you'll be fine. Can't wait to see you both and give you a real hug.

  10. I've got the "Annie" cd you can borrow. Instead of selling necklaces you can do a medley of all the songs, of course at the Airport mall! ;-) J.

  13. Kerri,
I just want you to know that I am thinking of you and Joey as you both go through this ordeal. As far as the chemo, after having gone through it myself, the anti-nausea meds they have now are fantastic. The one thing I will mention though, is that when they give some of the meds, they have may have to give you a little bit of steroid with it, and this caused me to have loads of energy(insomnia) and also was responsible for a few middle of the night visits to Walmart! Some people say they get lots of housework done, others paint or read... me , I decided to go on a Walmart roadtrip! Maybe not the wisest choice, but who else is open 24 hours? You'll do fine. I opted to wear hats instead of wigs, but my good friend and co-worker, who was also diagnosed at the same time I was, had a beautiful long blonde wig, that looked as good as her natural hair. It's all personal choice and what you're most comfortable with... Please feel free to contact me at anytime, should you feel the need. Be strong! Love, Lisa Hooke

  17. Hi there!

Well Kerri, you pretty much know my story and how I dealt with it. I don't know Lisa Hooke, but felt like she was posting a comment using the same words I would have! Adivan worked VERY well for me for nausea. I have some very cute hats made of t-shirt material that I got from CCOM that are very comfortable if you would like to use them. If you need anything or just to talk, you know I'll be there 24/7. I would do anything for the both of you! Soon you will be looking back at all of this and me amazed at what you can conquer!!!!!! LOVE YOU!
